Every year, thousands of people die of drug and alcohol addiction. These poor unfortunate souls leave a laundry list of broken relationships and sad relatives. Their untreated disease creates a legacy of addiction, where a child or spouse picks up a drink or drug to cope with the destruction left behind. Substance abuse places a burden on our families, our workplaces, as well as the criminal justice and health-care systems. Like clear-cutting forests, addiction carves a large path of destruction where there was once prosperous life.

For something so prevalent, a wide-sweeping rehab community is necessary to meet the diverse needs of these 20 million addicts and alcoholics. When we are faced with such dreadful statistics, we need to ensure that every time substance abusers search for answers, a helping hand is there to guide them out of the depths of this disease. Luckily, for still-suffering and recovering substance abusers alike, addiction is becoming a widely-known and studied phenomenon, with new information and treatment methods appearing every year.
