My Drug Abuse Has Gone Too Far!

My Drug Abuse Has Gone Too Far!

Perhaps you or your loved one has said numerous times that they want to quit, or that they’re ready to quit, but they never follow through. This may make you cynical towards yourself or the addict, and pessimistic towards the notion of recovery in general. Though this may be a painful stage for you or your loved ones to witness, it is a necessary step towards recovery from substance abuse, a gray area that must be passed through before the journey ahead can begin. If you keep adding numbers to a negative number, you will eventually pass through zero before you get to positive numbers. This is the same phenomenon for drug treatment.

Every successful recovery begins with a stagnant period, where nothing seems to happen even though everyone, including the addict, wants the mayhem to end. Realized that this is a healthy step on the road to a clean and sober life, and accept it patiently as a promise of things to come. The alcoholic or addict realizes her problem, but still hasn’t experienced the defining moment where it’s just all too painful to keep going with her addiction. While their desire to quit means all hope is not lost, many can stay in this stage for years, or never emerge from it.
