Drug Detox Programs

If the chemical dependency is quite severe or long-standing, a detoxification facility, drug “detox” for short, might be called upon to ensure the safety and health of the recovering individual. Our bodies grow quite dependent on drugs and alcohol for normal functioning, and quickly taking them away can cause bodily damage or even death. That is a testament to the potency of drugs and alcohol on our bodies.
Doctors and trained professionals monitor you around the clock in a drug detox facility, which usually last upwards of one to two weeks. They check your vitals, prescribe medications to help with withdrawal symptoms and ease the general pain and malaise of ridding your body of noxious chemicals. Upon a call to Treatment Finder or entrance into any rehab, you will be assessed to see if a drug detox program is right for you. Avoiding detox can cause you undue pain and suffering and, in cases with opiates, barbiturates or alcohol, even cause an untimely death from heart failure. If a treatment center doesn’t have a special drug detox center on-site, this will usually take place in a hospital setting.
