A Brief History of Drug Addiction

In the 19th century, addiction was a very private malady, and was often monitored and dealt with appropriately by one’s doctor. However, with the advent of prohibition and drug legislation in the early 20th century, addiction became a criminal offense, an evil act and a moral flaw. With the help of science and medicine, addiction has been officially classified as a disease of the mind and body, and whole realms of science are dedicated to studying its causes and effects.
