Effects of Drug Addiction
If you or your loved one has been chemically dependent for any length of time, chances are some of the effects are all too apparent. The outward effects are easiest to see because they cause the most destruction in other people’s lives. However, the turmoil doesn’t stop at the skin; there are numerous mental and physical consequences of prolonged and untreated addiction. For most, recovery is a life-long process of regrowth because abstaining from alcohol or drugs is only the first step. After achieving sobriety, we must work on the other areas of our lives which were unhealthy and perhaps drove us to drink or use as a coping mechanism: relationships, self-esteem, physical health, etc.
