Drug Addiction and Caregivers
We at Treatment Finder know how hard it is to sit idly by and watch loved ones fall deeper into the disease and destruction of addiction. After covering for the substance abuser or rescuing them numerous times, we feel used, manipulated and angry. Sometimes we just want to give up and cut the addict out of our life entirely, but then guilt always makes us take the person back or baby them again. We feel trapped into a cycle of push and pull, where no one is happy and love is just a memory. We may even feel envious of the alcoholic or addict because at least they can shelter themselves from the problems they cause by hiding inside a bottle, pipe or syringe. All these feelings are normal and expected.
