Medical Assisted Detox versusNon-Medical Detox

Sunday, September 2nd, 2012

Detox is extremely important for those struggling with addiction. Detox is only one of the many steps down the road to recovery. Los Angeles has many different types of drug treatment centers which include two type of detox for the patients. These are the medically assisted drug detox program versus the non medical detox programs. The medically assisted detox program is required for those who are completely “hooked” and dependent on a specific drug of choice. This means that if this person were to stop taking this drug all of a sudden, cold turkey or even if he or she is getting weened off the drug, it can be very dangerous and detrimental. It is dangerous because the body is has now become physically dependent on that constant intake of the drug. This can cause the body to react very negatively. These physical negative reactions to the no longer available drug are known as withdrawal symptoms. Methamphetamine detox is a perfect example of how intense and scary this type of program can get. If a person is extremely addicted to his drug of choice and has been ingesting it for years and years, some common reactions and side effects include vomiting, seizures, even heart attacks and death! This is why it is so importation to undergo detox under professional medical staff. Medical detox also provides medications and treatments to alleviate intense withdrawal episodes. In a non-medical outpatient detox program however, close medical supervision and hospital setting is not necessary. Drugs to help with the detox process are not given to the patient because they are not as physically dependent on the drug as other can be. This can also depend on the type of drug being abused. It is important for those with an addiction out there to know that asking for help doesn’t make you weaker than others. Every person has different strengths and weakness and I’m just grateful that programs like these were created because so many lives have saved. There is always help, you just have to speak up and ask for it.

A Choice to Recovery

Recovery

When faced with the challenges of addiction, it is first important to recognize that the problem exists. Often times, those facing those challenges, ignore the symptoms and watch as their life spiral out of control. Once that determination is made it is important to find the best program for your needs. Questions need to be answered. All types of treatment are usual. There are a wide variety of levels of care that drug intervention programs offer.
The patient needs to know how much they want to spend for their treatment. Inpatient care is usually more expensive than outpatient care because inpatient care requires housing and more hours of intervention.

The patient needs to be honest and determine how many hours they are willing to devote to actively pursuing their recovery. For the patient to experience successful treatment, that patient will have to be active in their own treatment as they work with the facility staff. What they put into their treatment is what they will experience.

That patient also needs to be honest with the level of addiction that they are experiencing. The patient cannot underestimate the level of their addiction if they are to receive proper treatment from the interventionists assisting in their recovery.

Intervention911 offers a wide selection of services including outpatient treatment/after care. i911 knows that treatment is seldom a “one size fits all” endeavor and has many options of treatment that is appropriate for the level of care that is needed.

If you feel after care is a treatment option that best fits your situation, please contact to discuss.

dualrf
It can be argued that two of a good thing is never bad and that two of a bad thing is never good. But, the average person can easily become confused by this equation. I know I can. The reason for this is that sometimes our natural, human inclinations have us rearranging the good and the bad, even when negative consequences are involved. There are simply some bad situations, with bad consequences that feel good. This is based on the fatal flaw of humanity: morality. We are ultimately the deciders of right and wrong and attribute events, people, and situations as such. However, there is one particular aspect to existence that this cannot be said for. What is being spoken of here is addiction and mental illness. Addiction stems from a person’s natural inability to not be able to experiment with drugs. Regardless of the substance, they will become hooked instantly. The mentally ill have genetic inclinations to emotions and lifestyles that are detrimental to the psyche and one’s social life. What’s even worse is that these two can combine.
Whether one leads to the other is not relevant here. Instead, dual diagnosis treatment programs are. Only with proper care and attention can the people being spoken of here recover. It is basically impossible to do on one’s own and it is very likely that countless individuals have tried. A center for dual diagnosis addresses both the symptoms and the underlying causes. Often, general, uniformed society believes that addicts are acting and behaving how they do out of their own will and choice. This is far from true; their outside appearance is merely a side effect, along with the use of drugs itself. So, dual diagnosis treatments add this to their understanding and recognition of mental illness as well.

Due to its size, there seems to be a plethora of mental illness and drug addiction at stake. This is not to say that health in California is in an overall bad place. But, for some odd reason, more and more people are being diagnosed with the illnesses previously listed. Why this is happening is anyone’s guess. It is also a known fact that California has more treatment and dual diagnosis programs than anywhere else in the world. Recovery is an industry here and this can be looked at from both a positive and negative perspective. From the positive standpoint, it means that it can provide an escape for people seeking help from elsewhere in country. It also has the ability to treat its residence is greater number. In addition, it gives people options, as far as what kind of treatment plan they want to see. Various budgets can be implemented as well. On the negative side, it means that the recovery industry can easily become flooded with people who are not ready for sobriety. It also means that some people’s neighborhoods can experience an increase in newcomers; which can make the unknowing uneasy, as to their close proximity.

At the end of the day, it is important for people to get the health treatment they need. Sometimes, this may come at the expense of others who cannot recover. But, at least those not ready can get the proper exposure for when the time comes. Also, for prospective clients and those trying to get their loved ones help; they have options about where to send addicts and the mentally ill.

The Marijuana Mind

marijuana-addiction
For no good reason, other than media exposure, which truly is the same thing as stupidity; people think that marijuana is a harmless drug. It should be legalized, some say. In fact, in some places around the world, it is. What is unfortunate about all of this and also what makes no sense is the fact that marijuana is truly addictive. This has been shown time and time again by medical professionals. It is also getting stronger and more potent, meaning that its addictive nature is increasing as well. Very few people can use it recreationally and this needs to be recognized. Propaganda showing this need be produced; instead of what is shown on television and heard in songs; making this drug out to be something magical. Marijuana addiction treatment is on the rise for a reason. More and more individuals are being sent to, or checking into, locations that can provide alleviation from this drug. It is no surprise that these numbers are increasing simultaneously with the number of places that it is becoming legal in and the supplemental media inflation.
Furthermore, information coming out of these facilities and from medical specialists is showing that marijuana has very serious mental implications. The necessity for schizophrenic treatment has been found amongst those trying to recovery. So, there is currently no doubt that it deteriorates the mind, or at least complicates it. Fortunately, these mental aspects usually correspond to the duration of use, meaning that those who recover from marijuana can recover from schizophrenia as well. However, for as long as a person is under the influence, their mental illnesses will persist. On the other hand, a mood disorder treatment center will be required for those cases when a person is not so lucky and has caused permanent damage. The consequences are real.
